Twitter Announced Features To Filter Trolls

Twitter

TwitterTwitter has finally published a blog to on Thursday announcing ways to muzzle trolls with two new controls for filtering your notifications considering the fact that notifications are the only ways how trolls can contact you. By default whoever mentions the ‘@’ symbol with your Twitter username reach you saying whatever they want. Hence the first setting reduces the noise in your notification stream by reducing the notifications from people only who you follow. It is not yet clear if the third party twitter apps can use it yet but the Twitter app and website can definitely use it.

Most Twitter users will not need this filter but for celebrities, outspoken feminists and politicians this is going to be a boon. Without having to sort through a deluge of hate now people can speak their mind freely with this new feature.

Lower quality controls such as bot generated Tweets and duplicate Tweets will be filtered by the second kind of quality filter. This new filter never blocks the people you follow or those with whom you have recently interacted. Users can find these new settings in the setting tab under notification area. Or users can directly type in the link: twitter.com/settings/notifications_timeline.
