Hipchat Announced A Group Video Calling Feature

Hipchat

HipchatHipChat users can get some face time chat with each other now whenever they want. A group video calling and screen sharing functionality where up to 10 people can join for a virtual face-to-face meeting was launched by HipChat. Users can bring additional people into the call or spin up a call in HipChat channel. With the same software that they count on text messaging, teams who work in different countries can now get onto the same page with the face-to-face calls.

This move from HipChat is targeted towards competing with Google Hangouts and Skype-like consumer service and workplace video conferencing system like Lifesize. This will help HipChat to compete with Slack which recently launched voice group calls and intended to launch Video calls in near future. The group video calling feature will only be available for Hipchat plus users with a minimal fee of $ 2 per month. As of now, only HipChat desktop app was equipped with the froup video calling feature but it is expected to make its move to the mobile in near future. After the high-flying productivity startup, Slack acquired the screen sharing company Screenhero in January 2015 it will be interesting to see how fast Slack brings video calling to its app for the competition.
