The Facebook one-on-one encrypted messaging feature dubbed as ‘Secret Conversation’ is now available for all iOS and Android users. Though Secret Conversations allow users to send end-to-end encrypted messages, however, there are a few disappointments. The feature works on only one device is the first one. They do not have the infrastructure to distribute the encryption key across the user’s PCs, tablets and phones said the company. Users have to start the Secret Conversation exclusively in messenger and the previous conversations of a particular set of users will not be integrated into the new thread.
This approach is just opposite of what the WhatsApp is doing. Though WhatsApp is owned by Facebook but they integrate the encryption into the present conversations. Another downside of the Facebook messenger is the encryption is only available for one-to-one messages and not to group messages.
Both the iOS and Android based messenger apps act similarly so here is how it works. From the home page of the messenger click on the profile icon (person icon on the top right corner) and then scroll down to until you, find secret conversations. With a click on the secret conversation tab, you will land on a page showing a warning, click ok and you should see the secret conversation slider. Once the slider is active the feature is enabled.
Now while creating a new conversation users will notice a lock icon on the top right corner of the screen. Which when activated the theme will change to black and the receiver will be prompted to accept in order to view the sent message. This is one way of doing it.
The other way is while in a conversation screen clicks the ‘i’ icon on the top right corner and scroll to the secret conversation and click. This action will land you in another black themed window which is the secret conversation screen.
